At the sound of the ivories ... a moment of eternity ... transient through the tapestry of time

I had MRT sightings some time ago, had the compulsion to write it down now.
PDA - Public Display of Affection. I witnessed that. The only difference is that the couple is not young but old. Imagine how ... *shudders* They looked like they were in their mid 40. The woman had a mooncake face while the man looked like a gigolo. *shudders*

I can't agree more with kwaire that we're living in an apathetic society, with citizens overlooking facts, taking everything for granted and worse fighting over silly Hello Kitty soft toys. But I could hardly believe that you said that the "Politics Club" (is that what it is called in NUS?) is full of people speaking terribly. I didn't quite believe though. I wondered why the Arts faculty has always been regarded as the dumping ground where the hopeless-in-results get streamed into. Although I'm not in Arts, but I think 2 types of people belong to the Arts faculty. One type are those who are seriously good at the Arts, and the other (as you have guessed) are those who simply can't make it into science. I'm not saying that science is superior to arts, I seriously donot and never thought so.

Singaporeans being the pragmatic and realistic sort, would definitely choose Science over Arts, for the simple reason that Science provides you with the technicalities and the administrative skills. What I mean by that is, if you graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering you could be an engineer (technically) and a teacher (administrative). While an arts student is limited to the administrative job. I admit I am a victim of this trend. Had I been much braver, I would choose subjects other than science.

Anyway, to clear up stuff about fitness. Firstly, it doesn't mean a fit hunk is healthier than let's say a lean male farmer in China. The point here is that appearance is strictly not a measure for healthiness. A point to note that I'm mainly discussing about sportmen or plain vain people who carry weights to achieve the hunky look. I am extremely disconcerted about the fact that the term "fit" is used to describe gym-goers simply like that.

Secondly, it is the diet and moderate exercise that plays a crucial part in being healthy. A rugby player could be fit but it doesn't mean he's healthy. Yes, he may be very well built, but it boils back to the point that he may not be healthy. Yes, he may be able to run at lightning speed, possess immense strength, and still it boils back to the point that he may not be healthy. Wait.. what does he eat to achieve that size?

It's scary to imagine what these ruggers have to consume each day to achieve that size. My friend once told me that he had to eat 2 chickens, several eggs, and other protein stuff per day. And most of the time their source of proteins comes from meat. MEAT! Imagine how harmful is that. I don't wish to dispute the fact that excessive meat is harmful to the body. And I doubt the meat is boiled, I doubt anyone can finish a plate of boiled chicken or beef.
Nonagenarians farmers in Japan live to a ripe old age because they eat more vegetables than meat. It is as good as saying that our bodies are designed to take in potassium rather than sodium (salt).

In fact, I think athletes (track runners) are perhaps the fittiest and the healthiest of the lot. They don't require a huge intake of protein, neither do they require a massive body size, but most importantly, they have cardiovascular fitness which probably means they are free from the effects of atherosclerosis (buildup of cholesterol in the arteries, in other words clogging which lead to high blood pressure and hypertension). What about Ethiopian Marathon runners? I think they are much fitter and healthier than the rugger in New Zealand.

Hence the baseline is that one has to exercise and eat moderately. The key to a healthy lifestyle is moderation in all things.
