I relived the moment of joy and enjoyment again. The feeling was soooo good. I miss practising during recess, and I miss how I rush back to class after practising - I used to be very late for classes sometimes. I miss the cosiness of the piano room - and we had always wished for a bigger one but wouldn't be cosier. and finally I miss performing. :)
Last year, I thought 88 would be my last time, and I didn't expect to be given this opportunity to play again. And this time we had the drama club people to liven up the atmosphere. Still could remember the first rehearsal with the drama club, it was a flop! Then luckily we made some quick changes. Some of the ideas were borrowed from Horrotorio. Most of the dance parts were impromptu! but I think they did a terrific job of pulling everything so well. Kenny recorded the rehearsals (signifying the making of Danse Macabre), and the actual concert. Yay, can make a VCD!
I played Danse Macabre (Piano Duet Version) by Saint-Saens with Kenny. This piece is a medieval symbolic representation of death, supposedly performed by skeletons in the graveyard. Originally, a symphonic tone poem for orchestra. The opening section creates a mystical feeling until the primo piano makes a sudden forte entrance, leading to the main theme which reappears in different styles as the haunting dance progresses. The steady and moving tempo throughtout the piece builds up to an intense climax towards the end, followed by a sorrowful and grave ending, signifying the dawn of a new day and the dance's finale.
As usual, the duo partners brought the house down again. :) This could not have happened without the breadtalk gang, my friends and everyone's advice, help and support. Mr Chan for giving us the opportunity, and Mr Ku for his musical interpretation, valuable guidance and advice.
Finished one roll of film, took photos with the Yr2s and my friends who came to watch the concert. Strange, I didn't seem to spot mozartean anywhere around this year, has he found a new target?
Jeremy Monterio and Michael Veerapen were totally FANTASTIC. My faith in virtuosic jazz piano was reaffirmed - I wanna learn jazz. It's so cool. Jazz harmony and jazz improvisation - way cool. My salutations to the 2 fantastic jazz pianists. ! !
Later, met up with Gab and Alvin after the concert to take supper; gab hasn't taken his dinner yet. It was quite sian coz we didn't know where to go, was just idling around, and we went home quite soon after that.
Oh, should thank lish for the flower too or she'll ermmmm.... hmmm nevermind :O
